Romney Endorser Says Gay Marriage Caused 9/11

By: Michael Matson

The Mitt Romney campaign attempted to shore up his anti-gay credentials yesterday with the release of a letter of praise and endorsement by national and Floridian social conservatives. But the letter is backfiring due to outrage over one of its author’s claim that gay marriage caused 9/11.

Pastor Roberto Miranda (right) of the COPAHNI Fellowship of Hispanic Pastors of New England is one of nine national conservative leaders who authored “Florida Social Conservatives Sign on to Letter Praising Mitt Romney’s Record.” Back in 2006, Miranda spoke at the Family Research Council’s “Liberty Sunday” rally in Boston to counter the supposed radical “homosexual agenda” that they believe seeks to destroy religious freedom.

“It is no coincidence, of course, that something as dramatically distant from the Christian worldview as gay marriage would be originated in this region.

” Mirada told the Boston rally attendees. "Is it exaggerated to see prophetic significance in the fact that on September 11, 2001, Boston served as the point of departure for the deadly forces that spread so much destruction and havoc in this nation and all over the world? What took place at the material level is now being carried out at the moral and spiritual level, as the virus of homosexuality and gay marriage begins to spread dramatically all over this nation and perhaps the world."

It’s disappointing that Romney would align himself with a pastor who contends homosexuality caused one of the most tragic events in U.S. history. But, as Rachel Maddow reported last week, Romney also supports ex-gay therapy through “charitable” donations. Which means that, either the Romney campaign is not paying enough attention to the social conservatives he works with, or he really does believe in this anti-gay hocus pocus hogwash.

What rock is that idiot living under?Shame they don't have anything else to bitch about.
And to think how many gay people are in the Militray to protect these assholes so they can spew this vile stuff.

How absurd and despicable. How is it that ignorant and hateful people get into any power at all? What idiots. Only the lowest of the lows could even utter any such obscene statements about 9/11.

And for those who include Christians in this heinous comment, I am a Christian. FORTUNATELY, the God I serve is a LOVING God. I use the Bible as a tool NOT a weapon. Please do not lump those of us who profess to be Christians, for many of us, we understand that we are totally sinful and are working to just do the best we can. I abhor the rantings of those who profess to be Christian when all they are doing is hating.
There. I am through and I am sure I will be getting hate mail from so-called Christians. Bring it on. I am secure in my faith.

This is for the Christians migrating to this page for no other reason than to add their support to this preposterous idea. Christian missionaries globe trotting conversion efforts are much more likely to be responsible for 9/11 than just about anything else. Invading foreign lands to usurp the indigenous peoples' spiritual beliefs for centuries was bound to create a backlash sooner or later. The wonder is that it took this long. Think about it if you've the courage to consider that just maybe we contributed to that horrendous event in some way.

Anonymous 2.3.2012 11:57:00 AM

Maybe it's idiots like this so called Pastor that caused the 9/11 happening. Get rid of those holier than thou morons and keep the churches out of this.

Profess769 2.7.2012 12:58:00 PM

Absolutely!!!

Anonymous 2.3.2012 11:29:00 AM

Okay, my gay brothers and sisters. Time out! This would be laughable if it were not to pathetic and predictable! I was in the North Tower when Flight # 11 crashed into it and so began the worst day in American history. Somehow, all the death, chaos and insanity which ensued does not make me feel guilty. I had nothing to do with 9/11, whatsoever. I am a survivor, not an instigator. How silly and ridiculous is that???
However, the "Church" is responsible for a whole host of catastrophic events; including the Crusades, the Inquisition and genocide of Native Americans, but we won't go into that at this time. “Goodness gracious, great balls of fire!!”

These gay-bashing right-wing fanatics should thank us publicly and often for giving them their much needed "cause" and "Target" and "Rallying Point" to go up against and hate. Who else could they choose to blame and shame? It couldn't be racial or ethnic, so it's sexual orientation nowadays! Think about if. Which minority do they all agree on to go up against and get tons of backing, publicity and funds??? US LGBT, of course! The right-wing loves to hate us and that is clearly their choice! Right???

Tweedle 2.3.2012 9:40:00 AM

I'd just like to know what the hell is this "gay agenda" I keep hearing from these left/right wing nut jobs? I'm mostly gay and my "agenda" is to just live in peace with the same rights as everyone else. Why does being gay seem to threaten these religious leaders? I'm not coming on to any of them, nor am I bashing them. If they wish to believe in some old fart sitting on a throne somewhere judging, punishing, forgiving slights, real or imagined, then I say, go right ahead and keep your head deep in the nonsense. I will not EVER try to take away your right to be an ass. Can't you afford me my own personal idiocy? You chose yours.... I didn't. I certainly would never have chosen to be treated worse than a leper for a good portion of my younger life. I suppose I should remember the source of this B.S.: religious nuts and politicians. Sadly, these are the very persons we are all supposed to look up to. Gads! Still, as long as Santorum doesn't get elected, I'll thank Jesus, Mohammad, Buddha, Boobarella, and anyone else I can think of.

Anonymous 2.3.2012 8:28:00 AM

So if we caused 9/11 lets start threatening we'll cause the end times to happen without the rapture. It feels good to have evil super powers no?

Steven 2.2.2012 8:23:00 PM

Interracial marriage in the United States has been fully legal in all U.S. states since the 1967 Supreme Court decision that deemed anti-miscegenation laws unconstitutional. I wonder if that's what started the Vietnam War?

Imagine an Interracial Gay Marriage...talk about your Fire and Brimstone! Flame-on!

Gary 2.2.2012 8:00:00 AM

Richard NYC 2.2.2012 4:48:00 AM

Michael 2.1.2012 8:52:00 PM

*Sigh*

Nothing good can come of Romney aligning himself with this pastor.

Saying that gay marriage or the "gay agenda" caused the events of 9/11 is like saying the gay marriage cause the war in Iraq (or Iran or Afghanistan etc etc) or caused the U.S. economy to fail. Geez. Do they do anything to get media attention? I'm sure this correlation pissed a lot of people off.

Pastor Roberto Miranda said an interesting choice of words. The "virus of homosexuality and gay marriage". Almost like being in a consensual relationship with a person of the same gender and wanting equal right like their heterosexual counterparts is something that's going to infect everyone everywhere and cause the Mayan prophecy of the Apocalypse.

Oh, and I love the "radical 'homosexual agenda'" comment and how they believe it "seeks to destroy religious freedom". Almost as if the "homosexual agenda" is a secret "coup de grâce" to destroy the sanity of religious faith all around the world.

Wow.

Religious freedom is the notion that people of religion can freely partake of the practices of their religion without opposition. This allows religions like Christianity (and all it's denominations), Buddhism, Judaism, Wicca, and even Satanism to practice their religion (as long as there are no human sacrifices or anything that breaks the law). The so called "homosexual agenda", I believe, threatens them because it violates most religious teachings that homosexuality is a sin or wrong (of course, so is cursing your parents, having a variety of crops on the same field, and wearing clothes made of more than one fabric, but I don't see them bickering about that). I understand that, but he fails to understand that people have the ability to think on there own and evolve their views on things. The version of a religion (i.e Christianity) of 1,000 years ago would be somewhat different than today's version (and a lot more forgiving).

Some people are so set in their ways that they are totally clueless and literally blind to the world and reality around them. Some humans are strange creature, are they not?

Just my 2 cents (and maybe some change).

muzyqman 2.1.2012 9:59:00 AM

The Republicans always seem to attract public speakers/writers who are grossly stupid because they are trying to appeal to a mass audience (Southern right-wing fundamentalist Christians) who are even more stupid because they CHOOSE to stop thinking and start following these idiots! Hopefully, Romney will get the Republican nomination and then these fools will say so many embarrassing things that Romney's campaign will implode!

Anonymous 2.1.2012 9:19:00 AM

uuuhhmmm gay marriage wasn't even legal here in Massachusetts when 9/11 happened.. So typical of conservatives not to get their facts straight before shooting off their mouths..

Robert E. Godwin, Jr. 2.3.2012 9:11:00 AM

And you are surprised, how?

Eric 2.1.2012 4:02:00 AM

With a name like Miranda, of course he's grown up to be anti gay. Like the guy in the song, "My Name Is Su" grows up to be macho.

Shofixti 2.1.2012 2:08:00 AM

Seems like he's saying 911 caused gay marriage if you read the chronology. But in as much as the "material" crime is linked to the moral issue of marriage equality, I guess it all gets intertwined.

Cody 1.31.2012 3:38:00 PM

This just disgusts me! Us as gays are "effecting religious freedom"?! WTH is that kinda' shit?! We all just want to be free it's people like this that make us sound guess our choices of wanting to be free and still practice our religions! And the "Gay Agenda" has NOTHING to do with 9/11 I can't believe they'd even bring them two together isn't just ridiculous notion for assholes to make us look like we're against America... They keep forgetting that people come to America to be Free not to be hated behind their backs, cause I'm pretty sure people escape their old countries because they were hated for who they were.

Anonymous 1.31.2012 3:11:00 PM

What a lunatic saying what he said so what he is saying was there were a lot of gay people in the Towlers. I sure feel sorry for FRC idiots...
