Brad Pitt proves once again he's more than just a handsome face. The actor has agreed to match and double any donations made to the Human Rights Campaign's National Marriage Fund HRC in the next 24 hours up to $100,000.

“It’s unbelievable to me that people’s lives and relationships are literally being voted on in a matter of days,” Pitt writes in an email sent to HRC supporters and shared on HRC's website. “In Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, and Washington, voters will go to the polls to decide if gay and lesbian couples — our friends and neighbors — are worthy of the same protections as everyone else. But that’s the system we have and I’m not going to back down from the fight for loving and committed couples to have the ability to marry.”

He adds, "So, here's what I'm going to do. If you make a contribution to these ballot measure campaigns in the next 24 hours, I'll double it - every dollar of the way, up to $100,000."

This isn't Pitt's first date with philanthropy. In 2008, he donated $100,000 to the unsuccessful effort to defeat California's Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage. Earlier this month he and partner Angelina Jolie were named among the 10 most charitable celebrities and last March Pitt co-starred with close friend George Clooney in the Los Angeles production of 8, Dustin Lance Black's play that served as a fundraiser for the American Foundation for Equal Rights, the organization behind the effort to overturn Prop. 8.
