Laverne Cox Is the First Transgender Person to Cover 'Time' Magazine

By: Matthew Breen

In a cover Q&A by Katy Steinmetz, actress and advocate Laverne Cox talked with Time magazine about her childhood, being bullied, and becoming the face of the transgender movement in the United States. And she looks dynamite!

Cox tweeted out the story on Thursday.

And subsequently a number of notables joined in to congratulate Cox.

Editor and author Janet Mock chimed in, suggesting that a hastag movement on Twitter to get Cox into the Time 100 list (she wasn't featured in the list despite bumping Justin Bieber off the top spot) was the reason for this cover. (Nice consolation.)

Here's a video of Cox talking to Time for this issue.
