Goldman Sachs CEO Supports Marriage Equality

Goldman Sachs' Chief Executive Officer, Lloyd Blankfein, teamed up with the Human Rights Campaign to create a video in which he asks viewers to join a majority of Americans who already support marriage equality. Rather than getting into emotional stories or a first-person account for why this matter is important him, Blankfein comes at it from a monetary perspective. "America's corporations learned long ago that equality is just good business and it's the right thing to do," he says in the 33-second video.

This seems to be a new approach that the HRC will be taking with future videos. In an interview with the New York Times, HRC executive Fred Sainz explained that Blankfein will be the organization's first national corporate spokesman for same-sex marriage, and part of the reason he was chosen was because he is “an unexpected messenger.”

“Lloyd Blankfein is not someone average Americans would think is going to support marriage equality,” Sainz said in the Times interview. “The green visor crowd is not typically associated with socially progressive policies, and this is further proof that a diversity of Americans are coming to the same conclusion.”
