Red State Democrats Push For Marriage

Seeing as same-sex marriage is banned in Montana, Pennsylvania and Texas, why did each state's Democratic party recently add marriage equality to their official platforms?

The legislatures of all three states have Republican majorities, so it's doubtful the aforementioned Democratic parties want to push for laws legalizing gay marriage. Instead it's most likely that the state parties want the Democratic National Committee to support same-sex marriage nationwide when the Democrats meet for their national convention this September.

It should be relatively easy for the DNC to support for gay nuptials in their platform. After all, President Obama recently voiced his support for marriage equality just last month.

On top of that, at least 22 Democratic senators, Democratic House Leader Nancy Pelosi and 35,000 Americans have all urged the DNC to include marry equality in the party's national platform too. But will the DNC listen? Let's wait and see...
