Last year had the highest number of anti-LGBT hate violence murders ever recorded.

And this year, we've already heard multiple accounts of violence against gay people including an Oklahoma City man who suffered second degree burns when attackers firebombed his car, an Atlanta teen jumped by a gang outside a local supermarket and one half of a Texas couple shot dead by an unknown assailant.

Every day, people in America face high levels of anti-gay violence and rhetoric, even gay schoolchildren and working adults.

But in our attempts to end anti-gay violence, should we ever become violent ourselves? And if so, under what circumstances and to what end?

Check out our slideshow of 10 people who fought anti-gay violence with mixed results and then let us know your feelings on "bashing back" in the poll and comments below.
