Celebrate Orgullo - Miami Beach - October 1, 2011

By: Christopher Donaldson

Dear Florida, brace yourself for the first-ever Celebrate Orgullo (Spanish for pride) to hit Miami Beach.

On October 1, 2011, all things Central and South American, Spanish, Mexican and Caribbean will come together under a bright banner of diversity to celebrate South Florida's LGBT Latino community.

Yes, you will see mighty gay storms: musical performances, folkloric dance, celebrity guests, drag performers, refreshements and vendor booths.

Celebrate Orgullo will also serve as an impressive introduction to Hispanic Heritage Month—September 15 thru October 15—and its theme that sounds just like a presidential campaign: “Heritage, Diversity, Integrity and Honor: The Renewed Hope of America.”

Doors will open from noon until 6 pm at Lummus Park, between 10th and 11th Streets, in Miami Beach proper and a portion of proceeds from the sale of food and beverages will benefit the LGBT Youth Scholarship Fund of the Miami Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce Foundation. And, it’s free! Need I say more?
