Sao Paulo Brazil Pride - June 7-11, 2012
When gay rights activists staged Sao Paulo’s first Pride Parade in 1997, the response was less than enthusiastic (only 2,000 people showed).
Oh what a difference 15 years can make.
These days, the Parade is said to be the largest of its kind on planet Earth. In 2011, according to the Brazilian Tourism Board, it attracted more than 4 million visitors and organizers expect that number to grow as this year’s Parade day approaches (Sunday, June 10th, 2012).
But with so many potential people to absorb, first things first: Getting there.
Well, it’s not really how you might get there (air, land or sea), but how you might get the best deal before you get there. And that should be easy, given the barrage of travel deals on the internet.
Out Traveler, for example, is offering round-trip airfare and three nights at the four-star Hotel Novotel Ibirapuera for about $1,500 per person. Similar packages from New York City or Boston start out at about $1,700 per person. That sounds about right, right?
