Are The Gay Games Coming To A City Near You?

The Gay Games (basically the queer Olympics) has just released the names of the five cities that have applied so far to host the tenth annual games.

The potential host cities so far are Orlando, Florida; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Limerick, Ireland; London, England and Paris, France.

Outsports pondered which city might ultimately snag the games:

The FGG hasn’t held the Games in the same country consecutively since 1986; Unless they’re willing to buck that trend, that would hurt Orlando’s chances. Rio is a fascinating selection, but the travel costs and travel distance from Europe would hurt participation (as did the location of Sydney in 2002, despite how amazing Sydney was as a host). Limerick, London and Paris are all intriguing, but the Europeans have drifted more to the Outgames of late, resulting in Cologne hosting the smallest number of participants since 1990.

But cities still have until July 15th to enter their application. So all you folks in small mid-west cities get crackin', or else you'll miss out on hosting over 10,000 LGBT athletes and attendees from around the world.
