Neil Patrick Harris Will Play Trans Rocker on Broadway
All hail the King of Broadway, because he's going to rock it again so hard.
A week after he killed it as host of the Tony Awards, it's been officially announced that Neil Patrick Harris will star in the spring 2014 Broadway premiere of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Playbill reports.
A musical dramedy about a fictional band fronted by an East German transgender singer named Hedwig — who will be played by NPH — Hedwig and the Angry Inch ran for more than two years at Off-Broadway's Jane Street Theatre starting Feb. 1998. Time named it the "Top Musical" of that year and Rolling Stone later called it the "Best Rock Musical Ever."
“I am simultaneously ecstatic and terrified to be stepping into Hedwig's heels," says the How I Met Your Mother star. "It is truly a once-in-a-lifetime role and I can't wait to begin the journey.”
“Who better to pass the wig to but the finest entertainer of his generation?" asks out performer John Cameron Mitchell, who wrote the musical's book and starred in the original stage and 2001 film productions. Adds composer Stephen Trask, “It’s like you’re putting together a fantasy rock band and Paul McCartney agrees to play bass.”
Are you looking forward to seeing Neil work his wig in box?
