What was the last vacation you took? Where did you go? Where do you most want to go?
We took an Atlantis Cruise to the Western Caribbean last March. It was GREAT. I would LOVE to go back to Europe Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin and Venice.
Are any famous people from your town?
Gus Van Sant, STORM LARGE!, Peter Paige lived here for a brief time. Sam Adams the first openly Gay Mayor of a major American City.
What are some of the things you love most about your town?
I love the proximity to the ocean, the mountains and the desert. I love our downtown area and the mass transit MAX, TriMet and the Portland Streetcar.
If someone came to your town for just four hours, what is the one thing he should do?
Travel out on the old highway and see Multnomah Falls.
What are some great restaurants for a night out with gay friends?
Mothers, JoBar, Thai Pod and Chez Jose.
What are some great restaurants for a romantic gay date? What about these restaurants appeals to you?
Allesandros quiet, great food, you're not rushed. Red Star great champagne. Again, not rushed. Better yet - I can cook too.
What are your favorite gay bars and/or dance clubs?
CC Slaughters and the NEW Silverado.
What are your favorite gay parties or events in your town, if any? What is the crowd or scene like at those places?
I love the Red Dress Party in April. The scene is really mixed. All ages, all races, all backgrounds. Pride it's a great place to people watch.
Where is the best public place for a gay person to make out there (or isn't there one)?
We're a pretty diverse city. I don't think there's any one place that is better but please, let's exercise a little good tastes.
What is the gay community like there? Do you consider yourself to be part of any particular "scene?"
The community is pretty diverse. There are some that are more "exclusive" than others. It tends to be politically charged at times. It¹s somewhat divided between men and women. I don¹t think that I¹m a part of any particular "scene". That's WAY too limiting.
Where do you shop for clothes?
A variety of places ... Nordstrom, Nordstrom rack, Macy's Well Suited a men's resale store in Irvington. Seattle is just a 3 hour jaunt away. I like a business casual look. Jeans, nice pressed shirt, cool jacket or sweater.
Where do you go for other forms of entertainment -- live theater, concerts, movies, art exhibits? Are there any local gay performance groups, bands, or artists that you're a fan of?
There is a great theatre culture here in Portland. We have the traveling Broadway series..but we also have an incredible local scene. Original works, everything from Chekhov to experimental theatre. I sing with the Portland Gay Men¹s Chorus the 5th oldest gay identified chorus in the US. We have an ambitious performance schedule as well.
If you had gay friends visiting from out of town for the first time, what are some "must-dos" you'd recommend?
(Mt. St. Helen courtesy Getty Images)
Multnomah Falls, the Chinese and Japanese Gardens, Washington Park and the rose garden the views of Portland are spectacular. A day at Mt St. Helen. Downtown - Walk the esplanade on both sides of the river. The Museum of Science and Industry on the East side of Portland.
Is there a local cocktail that's popular in your town?
Anything that packs a punch is considered good. We're a BIG microbrew town.
Where do the hot boys in your town tend to hang out?
ANYWHERE THEY WANT!
If you had to describe the "average gay boy" style of your town in two words, what would they be?
The one great thing about living here is that NOTHING is average. WE'RE EXCEPTIONAL.
What bar has the cutest/hottest bartenders?
I think some of the cutest are at Scandals and The Silverado.
Do gay men and lesbians hang out together in your town or is that just unheard of?
There¹s some mixing but it tends to be like a Jr. High Dance Boys on one side, girls on the other.
Has your town ever had a "gay scandal?"
Nothing to speak of. Some issues of poor judgment while trying to make themselves look good - but nothing that didn¹t work itself out.
Do you have a hometown crush?
I married my hometown crush!
