Truth to appear in Salt Lake City Tribune

Truth Wins Out, a pro-LGBT rights organization – will be running a full-page ad in Thursday’s Salt Lake Tribune (Salt Lake City, UT).  The ad, which counters a similar add placed in last Friday’s New York Times (which propagated a series of lies about “mob violence” being committed by Vote No protesters), is entitled “Lies in the Name of the Lord.”

Truth Wins Out’s press statement about the pending ad states:

“Truth Wins Out (TWO) unveiled a hard-hitting full-page ad today that will be published in The Salt Lake Tribune on Thursday… in response to an ad by anti-gay activists in last Friday’s New York Times, that falsely portrayed protests against Proposition 8 - a ballot measure in California that prohibited same sex couples from marrying – as mob violence. The TWO ad also criticized the culture warriors who ran the Times ad under the name, “No Mob Veto,” for their disingenuous claim of religious tolerance and their posture as staunch defenders of the Mormon Church.”

This ad is indicative that groups nationwide are energized and committed to keeping the fight alive around same-sex marriage generally, and reversing the consequences of the Proposition 8 outcome in California specifically.

While much criticism has been leveled against the Vote No campaign and its organizers – and, in this writer’s opinion, correctly so – this ad, and the fact that groups nationwide are becoming more and more engaged in the battle, are promising signs that more talent and more effort will continue to respond to the crisis, and that the next rounds of the battle will be joined by more and more people, organizations and force.
