Where is the best public place for a gay person to make out?
Wherever you're feeling it I say!
If you had gay friends visiting from out of town for the first time, what are some "musts" that you'd recommend they see or do?
A walk down by the piers on the Westside Highway and through the West Village is a must. I'd tell them to take in a Broadway show or two. Depending on when they were visiting, I'd see what dance events were happening that would be fun to attend. I'd recommend a walk through Central Park.
What are some of the things you love most about your city/town?
The options you have in NYC. There are so many things you can do here. Also, the diversity here is amazing. There are many different people constantly converging throughout Manhattan, it's always interesting. I also really LOVE the creative energy I feel here. It's like no other!
What are some of your least favorite things about it?
People seem to be very unconscious when it comes to space. There are a lot of people in New York City living and working within a limited space, so you'd think people would be more aware of themselves and the space around them. Not the case. Getting bumped and pushed without an "I'm sorry" is very common.
What gym do you like most? Why?
19th Street Gym on 19th Street (surprise) between 5th and 6th. It has everything I need without a scene. People are friendly, the gym is clean and the location is very user-friendly.
What are some great restaurants for a night out with gay friends there?
Although the food can be a hit and miss thing, Elmo is always a gay hotspot. I enjoy Rocking Horse, and their Sangarita's (Margarita and Sangria) rock!
What are some great restaurants for a romantic gay date? What about these restaurants appeals to you?
Another nice thing about Manhattan is that you can have a nice romantic "gay" date whether you're at a gay focused establishment or not. Le Cirque is always fun, as is gay owned Chow Bar. Sushi Samba is wonderful. These restaurants combine great ambiance with outstanding food.
Is there a particular best place to "people watch" that most people not familiar with your town would find helpful?
Well most tourist hangout around and about 42nd Street, which is fine if you want to take in the lights and congestion, but for me it's too much! I'd rather go to one of the smaller parks in the city, or walk down by the piers on the Westside Highway. In this city, the best place to "people watch" is everywhere!!
What is the gay community like? Do you consider yourself to be part of any particular "scene"?
The gay community is alive and visible in NYC. I don't really feel a part of any particular scene, although I will say that I live in Chelsea, so ...
Do gay men and lesbians hang out in the same places in your town, or is that just a ridiculous notion?
I think gay men and lesbians hang out at different places in general, unfortunately. Now there are some exceptions to that rule, but I think for the most part they socialize separately.
Does your town have a LGBT pride celebration? Do you usually attend? What are the highlights for you? What do you like least about it?
Yes, absolutely. I usually attend, or I'm involved in some way shape or form. I enjoy the coming together of different people within our community during these celebrations. I wish that our community could feel that sense of connectedness throughout the year, though, not just during pride.
Where do you go for other forms of entertainment -- live theater, concerts, movies, art exhibits? Are there any local gay performance groups, bands, or artists that you're a fan of?
In New York City, there are so many options to experience live entertainment. Broadway, Off Broadway, local nightclubs, subway stations, on the streets, etc. With regard to local talent, I love Cazwell, Amanda LaPore, The Ones, the Dazzle Dancers and the Daisy Spurs are a blast!! The show at The Box is always unique and entertaining.
