Happy Hour Friday: Watermelon Margarita

By: Joe Thompson

We've had watermelon margaritas at Mexican restaurants, but they rarely use fresh fruit. Instead, the mixer is a strange syrup that leaves a cloying sweetness on the taste buds that makes you think this drink is a Mexican't.

Then we saw the watermelon margarita recipe from Out's Summer Entertaining Guide and got so excited that we tried it out. And it's pretty great— lightly sweet, extremely refreshing, and with just enough kick to get you feeling happy.

So here you go, the recipe that we're now considering our summer favorite.

Watermelon Margarita

1 1/2 ounces Don Julio® Blanco Tequila
1/2 ounce lime juice
1/4 ounce agave syrup
1 slice watermelon

1. Muddle watermelon and agave syrup, add the other ingredients and shake well.
2. Double strain into a frozen martini glass.
3. Garnish with an additional watermelon slice.
