The “Fabulous” Fives - Las Vegas Style
Fabulous Las Vegas is the gayest event to hit Sin City this year, and while you’re in town you’ll definitely want to experience other attractions as well. But where to start? With endless top tier hotels, restaurants, and shows, it’s difficult to figure out where to go.
Fortunately, the Gay.com staff loves us some Las Vegas, so here’s our Fabulous Fives list: the top places for gays to Rest, Indulge, Imagine, and Party.
Hotels in Vegas offer everything from extreme pampering to great bargains, and here are our top picks:
This is the new “It” spot in Las Vegas, with gorgeously appointed rooms, wonderful shops, beautiful casino and spa, plus A-list restaurants that will make leaving the grounds very difficult.
Though it’s been around for a while (by Las Vegas standards) there’s still an old world elegance and luxury you can’t find at any other property on the strip. For a real pampering, stay in one of Bellagio’s suites.
3. MGM GRAND
Wonderful mid-priced rooms but with a big bonus during the Fabulous Las Vegas weekend: Lady Gaga is performing here. So if you’ve got tickets why not make this your destination for pre and post-concert parties?
4. MANDALAY BAY
Beyond the wonderful oasis quality of this property, they have a luxurious spa called BATHHOUSE. (No, not that kind of bathhouse, boys!) This is where you can completely relax and unwind from your work week and better enjoy the Vegas nightlife.
Luxor is your best choice for staying in style while saving a buck (or $20) that you can use later on the slot machines. While it’s not as close to the action as other locations, Vegas hotels offer free self-parking and car rentals are cheap. Just don’t drink and drive.
Few cities in the world have the culinary firepower of Las Vegas. Five really limits us, but here are some selections.
1. Burger Bar
Hubert Keller offers a gourmet burger eatery inside Mandalay Bay. Absolutely wonderful.
2. Jean Georges Steakhouse
Jean-Georges Vongerichten has reinvented the American steakhouse with superb elegance; only at ARIA.
Charlie Palmer’s restaurant isn’t the newest spot on the strip, but it still offers outstanding progressive American cuisine. Plus, those wine angels must be seen to be believed.
Eva Longoria Parker's Las Vegas restaurant (with a nice menu from Todd English) isn’t known for great service but there’s a Hollywood camp atmosphere that makes this place fun. Located in Crystals at CityCenter with amazing views.
5. Le Cirque
Honored with a rare AAA Five Diamond rating, Le Cirque’s French cuisine is impeccable and served in a welcoming, un-pretentious atmosphere; inside Bellagio.
Even if our editor wasn’t a trapeze instructor, we would totally love Cirque du Soleil’s shows in Las Vegas, because when you watch these performances your imagination is transported to worlds beyond our own. If you haven’t seen one, now’s the time.
Calling all sexual creatures, this is the hottest show in Las Vegas, where all of society’s rules are tossed out the window. Hang on and enjoy the ride.
The most beautiful show of them all, with images and music that will bring tears to your eyes.
Absolutely stunning, with battle scenes and sets that will make you believe you’ve been transported into a 3D action movie.
4. The Beatles™ LOVE™
Combining The Beatles’ music with Cirque, this show is wonderful for both circus fans as well as music lovers who have an aversion to clowns and aerialists; a great introductory show for anyone.
5. Viva ELVIS
As much a concert as it is a stunning performance piece, Viva ELVIS is all about music, dance, and acrobatics; better still, you don’t need to be an Elvis fan to love this show.
Believe it or not, there are gay clubbing options now on the strip and they’re definitely the city’s new hotspots.
At The Mirage’s Bare Pool & Lounge on Saturday nights with incredible sound, lighting, and shows.
2. Temptation Sundays Pool Party
At Luxor, it’s the ultimate boys in bathing suits fest.
3. Closet Sundays
At The Beatles REVOLUTION Lounge in The Mirage; the perfect weekend ending.
4. Lady Gaga
August 13 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
5. Fabulous Las Vegas Weekend
August 12-15 features even more events that we’ll be chatting about on Gay.com in the coming days.
