
KQED Celebrates Pride with Free Event
In the spirit of LGBT Pride Month, KQED will host a free double feature screening at the historic Castro Theatre in San Francisco, CA on Tuesday, June 28 at 7pm.
On the anniversary of the dramatic event that launched a worldwide right movement, Stonewall Uprising: American Experience will explore the police raid of New York’s Stonewall Inn in 1969.
Following the moving first feature, the second screening will be the award winning film Screaming Queens: The Riot at Compton’s Cafeteria. The film originally aired as a part of KQED’s independent film series and tells the lesser-known story of the local act of assertion at San Francisco’s Compton’s Cafeteria which occurred three years be fore the Stonewall riots.
