A formal announcement is supposed to hit in the next two weeks, but RadarOnline is reporting that Britney Spears appeared in court yesterday alongside her dad and fiancé to get approval for her to appear on X Factor as a judge.

A person is usually placed under a conservatorship when he or she has been deemed gravely disabled or lacking full mental capacity and is unable to handle basic needs like finding food, clothing, and shelter. Spears had this happen following her erratic behavior years ago—her parents are her conservators—and they needed to get approval from the court for her to become a judge on the hit talent show.

According to the article, an unnamed source close to the story said "Britney's team is almost ready to sign the contract for her to become a judge on X Factor." The judge talked to Spears to make sure she knew what she was doing, and to see if she was capable of doing the job. The source says, "The judge was extremely impressed and Britney is very, very excited to become a part of Simon Cowell's show. The judge signed off on the deal."

The singer will reportedly be paid around $15 million a year and travel for auditions, "as long as it doesn't interfere with her custodial time with her sons."
