Great News for the Gay Country Singer on 'Nashville'
As if catfights between stars Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere weren't enough to make gays watch Nashville, the ABC show cranked up the drama late in its premiere season with the surprise introduction of a gay character.
Chris Carmack plays aspiring country singer Will, a neighbor of country duo Scarlett and Gunnar. After befriending Gunnar, played by the handsome Sam Palladio, Will drunkenly tried to kiss him — shocker! Although freaked out at first, Gunnar eventually came around as a friend and learned that Will, who hopes to be country music's next big thing, uses his womanizing personality to cover up his true sexuality.
The Hollywood Reporter now reports that Chris, previously best known for his role on The O.C. ("Welcome to the O.C. bitch!"), has been updated to a series regular for Nashville's upcoming second season. Ride 'im, cowboy!
This is especially good news after the loss of so many major gay TV characters due to the cancellation of shows like The New Normal, Happy Endings, and Smash.
Are you watching Nashville? If not, will this news make you add it to your DVR queue this fall?
