In early March, social media users tweeted to their unborn children under the globally trending Twitter hashtag #tomyunbornchild. Most of the tweets were messages of love and hope for the next generation, but many saw the trend as an opportunity to express disturbingly violent hate speech towards LGBT children, threatening to "kill" their future offspring if they turned out to be gay. In fact, so many people posted hate-filled tweets that the Twitter account @Homophobes was able to collect 100 of them within 24 hours and post them on Storify.com.

After reading what she described as "bile," filmmaker Charlotte Moore wondered how it would feel if we heard actual parents saying this to actual children. So she produced a short video to address the question.

"It's easy to dehumanize hate speech online because we've gotten so used to seeing it," wrote Moore in text accompanying her finished video. "We tell ourselves that it's the product of trolls, of random, anonymous strangers. Except they're not. They're real people. Many of them will be parents. And some of their children will be gay."

Boy Culture describes Moore's finished work "as "chillingly effective in it's simplicity." See if you agree after watching the video below.
